windows woes

windows stopped recognizing removable storage devices. They were seen in the device driver list but not in the "My Computer" folder (no drive letter assigned)

fixed like this (after a prolonged session of gnashing of teeth):

right click on "My Computer"->Manage

select Disk Management

right-click on the device that's not seen in My Computer->Change driver letter and paths
